Like a lot of budget DIYer’s, Refresh Living doesn’t enjoy spending a lot of money on anything, including her home décor and furniture, and her bedroom makeover was no exception. To get that Pottery Barn bed look but for a fraction of the cost, she made her own headboard out of plywood and our Esperanza Lace Tile Stencil. Who knew that style could be this affordable?
Just like decorative pillows, a headboard can help you create a cohesive space by mixing and matching colors, patterns, and texture. My Patch of Blue Sky needed to find a way to complement her Moroccan décor and flea market finds in her bedroom. She found a curbside wood beadboard with patina green color that caught her eye. She couldn’t believe someone would want to throw something away that had so much DIY potential! She stenciled it with our Indian Floral Wall Stencil and voila! Her bedroom now had a fine-tuned eclectic look that she was envisioning! See the full DIY tutorial here: Stenciling a Bedboard Headboard.
Jennifer Priest had always wanted a headboard to complete her bedroom, but couldn’t find the right style or an affordable price. Once she learned that stencils can be used with any paint color, she quickly found a large canvas to use our Starry Moroccan Night Stencil on. This slim DIY headboard takes up very little space in the bedroom but makes a big impact with her colorful geometric bedding. If she decides she no longer wants this style of bedroom, she can easily move this stencil project to another room to use as wall art.
Another way to create a DIY headboard for your bedroom is to paint directly on your wall! Bon Temps Beignet had previously painted a solid coordinating color on her bedroom wall that was perfectly sized to set off the bed. Unfortunately, she stared at it for months as she couldn't decide how to fill up what was now looking like rather sparse. As soon as she spied the Fabric Damask Wall Stencil, she knew stenciling the color blocked area was the perfect idea to add style and interest. And she was right! Her headboard is now shimmering, shining, and styling!
This headboard shines above the rest AND is spot on! My Patch of Blue Sky kept with her modern bedroom style and using silver leaf to create a headboard directly on the wall behind her bed. She then used our Dot Dot Dot Polkadot Wall Stencil and metallic gold foil to add a pop of pattern in the large silver space. What a beautiful focal point!
