A well-designed rug can help pull all of a home's decor together by adding color, style and pattern. In fact, many designers suggest designing a room from the rug up! Stenciling a plain rug is not only fantastic for creating a custom finish for your home, it's also quite cost effective. With the enormous selection of stencil patterns and designs available from Royal Design Studio, you can start building your next beautiful room with a stenciled rug! Some of our blogger friends did just that and we wanted to share these stencil inspirations with you! Let's dig in!
Fabulous, right? Striking graphic designs are super haute as DIY superstah Mandi Beyeler of Vintage Revivals can attest to. She used the Houndstooth Allover Stencil from the popular Allover Modern Stencils Collection to add stencil zing and pow to this 8' x 10' bare Ikea sisal rug. Best of all, it was a gift for a bestie. We love how stenciling can make someone happy! Be sure to catch Mandy's Ombre Houndstooth Stenciled Rug Tutorial.
The Allover Moroccan Stencils Collection has pattern options that have been used to add global chic to many surfaces and Jessica from Stellar Junk wanted just that. She snapped up the Large Marrakesh Trellis to transform her "heinous, embarrassing old rug" into something she was super proud and happy to walk by. What a pleasing three-color design scheme, too! Her stenciled rug post has all the details for you to create your own.
We love everything Miss Mustard Seed does and this stylish stenciled rug is no exception! Wanting a Swedish feel, she opted to wrap the design around the rug by stenciling the border instead of an allover design. Brilliant! She used the Daisy Chain Wall Stencil Border on a bargain jute rug and it took her all of 15 minutes for this project. If you'd like to do the same, the Border Stencils Collection has quite a few patterns so that you can pick your perfect design.
Chic interior stylist Sarah Gunn is a frequent design guest expert on the Canadian lifestyle show, Cityline TV. On the show, she stenciled an indoor rug with one of her favorite designs, the Lisboa Tile Stencil, while showcasing how fun and easy the stencil project was! She also blogged about the DIY Stenciled Rug Project on the Yummy Mummy Club site. We love how pretty and versatile it looks!
Not only can you use stencils on indoor rugs, but also entrance mats, scatter rugs and outdoor rugs as well, to name a few. Always select the highest-quality rug you can before stenciling as this will provide you with the most durability. Most area rugs also add warmth, cushion and comfort and can help control the noise levels in a room. Sooo, it's not only a stylish design element, it may also be a necessary one as well -- and of course, you want something practical to also look fabulous! Necessary stenciling? Always!
