Comfy, casual and cozy- cottage style is perfect for the way we really live (or want to!). Jenna Sue Design lives by this style, but her bedroom seemed to be more dated than cheerful and welcoming. It was dark and old-fashioned and desperately needed a cheery makeover. Here’s the before:
Talk about outdated! Jenna says, “I considered leaving a wall or two with wallpaper, just to preserve some of the original character and charm of the home. In the end, I decided the 60’s motif was just a bit too much, but in an effort to retain some of the original quirkiness, I came up with a compromise: stenciled walls.”
Here’s a look at how she freshened up this small bedroom while adding color and cozy textures to give the room the cottage feel she craved: She quickly learned that Royal Design Studio Stencils has a huge variety of designs for every style home, including a farmhouse cottage. She loved the idea that “stenciling is less of a commitment, is low cost, beginner friendly, and you can simply paint over it if you don’t like it.”
She chose our Allover Brocade Floral Wall Stencil and a peachy coral color to paint the bedroom accent wall because she wanted to pay homage to the vintage floral design, but in a new and updated way. She loved how the registration marks on the stencil and the durable mylar material made it easy for her to bend the stencil into the corners and match up the pattern. You can see her video on how to stencil here.
