Are you redecorating a room to have modern, mid-century style? It can be tough, especially when you’re not sure how to capture the minimalist and clean look but still create a cozy place to hand out. Casey of Vitamini Handmade had big plans for fixing up her bedroom with this trendy style. Her biggest challenge would be working with the aqua carpeting and the pinkish wood trim since she had to keep those. She was envisioning a calm, clean space with retro/modern style. Did she hit the mark? We think so! Check out this before and after of her bedroom makeover and tell us if you agree!
What a difference a little bit of paint and stenciling makes! Let’s now see how she did it:
Casey wanted to keep the room somewhat light and neutral, but she definitely wanted something to make it unique. To do this, she decided she needed to add some color and interest to her walls. A patterned accent wall would take her bedroom makeover to the next level. She first thought of using wallpaper to achieve this, but instead opted for stencils from Royal Design Studio. She says, “Stenciling would allow me to choose my own color combinations instead of being stuck with what wallpapers were available. I could really make it my own with painting technique and finishes.” We totally agree!
After browsing our large stencil selection, she narrowed her pattern choice down to the African Wave Wall Stencil. She says, “It's graphic and has a modern simplicity that I really liked that would look great with mid-century style furniture.”
To make this stenciled wall even more unique, she used a subtle fading ombre painting technique. The color is more saturated on the top of the wall and gets lights going towards the bottom. She did this by using less and less white paint and gradually mixed a bit of gray paint as she worked to the bottom.
Look how amazing it turned out! Stenciling an accent wall is a quick project for the big impact that it gives the room. Casey is so happy about how her modern mid-century bedroom turned out!
It’s amazing how stencils can add that extra oomph to room makeovers, while still complementing whatever decorating style you are envisioning.
